New Year & New Posts
We've had an inch of snow over night and it's really cold (by UK standards). Every time we have snow fall over here people panic. They start filling their car with "emergency supplies". A flask of tea, First Aid kits, wolly throws, hats, gloves and in-car mobile chargers.
As a Swede, it's really funny to watch them. I've grown up (mostly) in the north of Sweden where winters with one to two metres of snow wasn't an unusual happening and where temeratures would dip down to a, staggering, minus 25 to 30. But "we" know how to dress for it. British people don't. It's not unusual to find a group of twenty-somethings on their way out to a club wearing nothing but high heels, short skirts and skimpy tops in the middle of winter. Oh, and then they wonder why they get ill. It's a yearly thing and they never learn.
Personally I'm always prepared; lovikavantar (really think wolly mittens), wolly scarf (preferably a very long one) and a wolly hat (that covers the ears). I've also stolen my boyfriends huge parka jacket (which has a large hoody which is lined with (fake) fur). I left my goose down jacket in Sweden as it comes in handy when we're over for winter visits.
I also own a pair of "the best winter boots ever made". Bought in Sollefteå back in 1997. I paid £90 (1,145 SEK in today's money). I saw it as an investment then and bloody hell were they! There's hardly no wear to either of the soles and they've both got their fleece lining still intact. Two years ago I bought a pair of UGG boots. They've completely fallen apart. And I spent the same amount of money on them.
Right. I'd best have a shower and get ready for the day ahead. I shall be working a little today (I'll explain about what it is that I do a little later) and then I'll be watching TV tonight as they're showing The Italian Job (which is, incidentally, as "old" as I am!). Who doesn't like Michael Caine?
Have a great day :)
